Property Tax Reform

Rising property tax burdens — often driven by local government spending that outpaces what residents have explicitly approved — represent a significant and underappreciated financial pressure on Arkansas homeowners. AFP Arkansas supports a Truth in Taxation framework that requires local governments to notify property owners in clear, specific terms whenever a tax increase is proposed, including the current and revenue-neutral millage rates and a precise accounting of how additional revenue would be used. We further support requiring voter approval when proposed tax collections would exceed inflation and natural growth, and greater transparency in local government borrowing so that Arkansans understand the full per-household cost of any bond measure placed before them.
